Following the retirement of its founders, Paddy and Joyce O’Keeffe in early 2008, Tipperary Organic Ice Cream Limited was bought by established chocolatiers, Jim and Mary Healy and in July 2009 was relocated to The Chocolate Garden of Ireland in Rath, which is situated about 4 miles from Tullow, Co Carlow.. Its products still include premium organic ice creams and sorbets, gluten free and suitable for vegetarians. It is a 100% natural product, which is certified by The Organic Trust.

The ice cream is made by hand without using any chemical additives, colourings or artificial preservatives.

Tipperary Organic ice cream is made using secret traditional Italian recipes from top quality ingredients. The ingredients are monitored from the fields all the way through to the finished product.

The aim of the company is to supply consumers who have high quality expectations and a desire for great tasting, luxury products. Since the ice cream is batch-produced (i.e.not mass-produced) the company is able to provide a good selection of natural flavours.

The discerning consumer is becoming increasingly concerned with the quality of food, particularly relating to artificial additives used in their production. That same consumer needs to be satisfied about the trace-ability of the ingredients. A smaller section of consumers are worried about the effects of intensive farming methods particularly regarding residues of chemicals in food.

The founders, Paddy and Joyce O'Keeffe of Clogheen, Co. Tipperary, were in the catering business for a number of years and saw a gap in the market for a high quality Irish made ice cream. They had a history of producing good food of the highest quality. They spent some time in 1999-2000 in Italy learning the finer points of small scale production of Italian ice cream, and sourcing and experimenting with organic ingredients.

The company developed and launched in May of 2001 into the retail market a range of luxury home made organic ice cream sold in an attractive 125ml & 500ml recyclable carton. It also supplies a wide range of flavours in catering packs to the hotel and restaurant trade.

The European and UK market for Organic products is very strong it is intended to expand there after this product has been established in Ireland.

New varieties like Summer Berries and Sticky Toffee Fudge have been introduced in the past 18 months and also some exciting non-organic varieties like Bubblegum, Whiskey Cream, Cookies & Cream, Honeycomb to name but a few!
